What Exactly Is Lutein?

If you’re wondering what exactly is lutein than in a nutshell it’s a powerful nutrient. Technically it is a carotenoid which occurs in chloroplasts of plants, fungus’s, and certain types of bacteria.

It is also responsible for changing the color of plants into certain colors. Lutein is mostly known for helping protect someone’s eye sight along with zeaxanthin. One of the main diseases that this nutrient can help protect someone against is cataracts.

If you want to know what a cataract is than picture driving a car through a foggy windshield. Well, the windshield is your vision and it’s permanent and it’s not a pretty picture is it?

The most troubling part about cataracts is they creep up on someone so they start slowly then progressively get worse until it’s hard for someone to see.

Macular degeneration is the most common type of eye problem in seniors above the age of 60. What happens is that the central part of someone’s field of view in their eyes gets blocked out so they can only see their peripheral. I can only imagine how frustrating this must be trying to read or watch a movie.

This disease can creep up on someone slowly or it could happen very fast and the good news is that lutein can help prevent it as well as cataracts.

Exactly how lutein can assist with preventing these eye problems is that parts of the eye or created from lutein and zeaxanthin. Also it is an antioxidant which is used to protect the eye from harmful rays of the sun, toxins, pollution and other bad things.  Other benefits of the antioxidant are that it may protect someone from certain types of cancer and osteoporosis.

Note that the human body can’t manufacture this substance and someone can only get it from foods or supplements.

Research shows that 6-10 mg per day of lutein is necessary to realize lutein’s health benefits. Foods with the most of this nutrient are green leafy vegetables starting with kale then spinach, parsley, lettuce and celery.

Someone can also get this substance through a supplement. Picking a supplement is about as fun as shopping for a car. Well at least I don’t have fun shopping for cars.

There is a lot of confusing information, everyone it seems is out to take your money and it’s an important decision. Wouldn’t it be nice if there was some type of guide that could explain the industry and show people what to look for in a supplement as well as what to avoid?

Well, I created a eBook because I was very interested in the subject and I had a hard time finding information. I could easily sale this eBook for plenty of money but I have decided to make it FREE. To view this eBook click on guide to supplements.
