Lycopene helps with tons of ailments and fighting cancer just to give you some ideas, male infertility, diabetes, wrinkly skin, fragile bones, gum problems and cardiovascular disease which affects the heart and arteries that supply blood to this muscle.
Lycopene is a bright red colored coronoid that is found in many vegetables such as tomatoes, watermelons, papalas, but not in strawberries or cherries; which is a bummer for me because those are my favorite foods especially if you dip them in liquid chocolate.
A coronoid is a substance that is manufactured by plants but not by animals and are responsible for all the crazy colors that come with fruits and vegetables.
Plants use these molecules by converting the power of the sun into energy they can use. Animals can use them by destroying pollution and free radicals that they come into contact with. Oh by the way humans can use them the same way animals can.

Another way that it can help fight cancer is with lowering the level of insulin in the blood.
It has been found that high levels of insulin (which is sugar) can have negative effects on organs and cells. In a recent study in Detroit, scientist gave thirty men lycopene before they were going to go through surgery to remove a cancer from their prostate gland. Some were given a placebo pill which means they were giving nothing just led to believe they were given something. Some were given a very large dose and some half of that dose.
The results of the test where basically the more lycopene the users where given the less cancerous their prostate was. In other study done by Harvard with over 48,000 men they found out that men who ate the most pizza sauce, tomatoes and pizza where less likely to get cancer.
The study concluded that people who ate more than ten servings of tomato products a week where 35% less likely to get prostate cancer than people who had less than 2 servings of tomato products a week.
It’s not every day that you read a health article that promotes eating pizza right? I seriously don’t ever think I could get sick of eating pizza, I love it but I don’t love getting too overweight which is what the carbs do to me.
However other studies have not concluded that this nutrient helps fight other areas of the human body where cancer starts like breast, skin, or lung cancer. The good news is that studies have shown that it doesn’t hurt to give lycopene a try. If you love to eat pizza all day long, I used to do that so I feel you.
Neverless if want to take a supplement which I highly recommend there are a lot of good companies. Of course there are also a lot of very bad companies. So the million dollar question is how can someone know if a product is bad or if it’s good?
