Bilberry Extract for Eyes

Bilberry extract can be great for someone’s eyes. Bilberries are a berry that looks very similar to a blueberry except they are usually found around Great Britain. One of the ingredients in bilberries that is very helpful to humans is that they have antioxidants.

These antioxidants can prevent free radical damage to someone’s body and of course the eyes. This alone can prevent some serious health problems to someone’s eyes such as cataracts and macular degeneration.

Cataracts are an eye problem in which someone’s vision becomes cloudy while macular degeneration is an ailment in which someone can see from the corners of their vision but not directly in front of them.

Bilberries have a substance in them called anthocyanins, which can provide the eye food, more circulation and nutrients to protect it from strain and soreness. Maybe this is the reason that World War 2 British fighter pilots would take this berry before night flying missions and would notice that they could see better.

Also a complex known as anthocyanosides, which are found in these bilberries can help with healing a segment of the eye that is used for night vision. Besides antioxidants this plant has a few other tools that it can use to protect someone’s vision.

For example it contains a large amount of anthocyanin and this ingredient has been known to help protect the eyes from all kinds of diseases.

In one study combining bilberry extract with some blueberries, gingko and zinc can prevent vision loss. Bilberries can provide other benefits to a person such as preventing heart disease. In one study that took place in the country of France researches took rats and gave some of them bilberry extract.

The other group received no bilberries and after 4 months it was discovered that there was less plaque buildup in the group that had bilberry extract. Plaque is associated with heart disease because it can clog up artery and prevent blood from reaching the heart muscle.

One of the easiest ways someone can get bilberries if they don’t live in England would be to take a multi-vitamin with them. If you do a Google search on bilberry supplements are you go to a supplement store than your probably going to have more choices than a kid at a candy store, but you can only choose one.
