Knowing the best food sources for resveratrol can help someone not only add time to their life but prevent some major health problems. Resveratrol is an ingredient that is found in certain plants to help them fight off unhealthy bacteria and funguses.

This nutrient got a lot of attention starting in 2003 when a scientist was able to extend the life of yeast. Then he tested it on worms and rats and the result was that they had an extended life of nearly 70 percent.

Resveratrol also contains a lot of antioxidants, which help reduce the aging effects such as wrinkles, low energy and it can destroy toxins and free radicals.

One of the most popular food sources of resveratrol is red wine. This was due to the French paradox in which the majority of the population in France drinks a lot of wine yet they have very low cases of heart disease, besides eating lots of saturated fats.

Some health experts believe that it had to do with the resveratrol found in red wine. Another big food source that contains this nutrient is grapes itself.

The great news about grapes is that it’s mostly water so it’s hard to gain too much weight by eating grapes. Other foods that contain this nutrient are some chocolates, peanuts and raspberries.

Lastly someone can get the positive effects of this substance by taking a supplement. The great news about a supplement is that someone can’t get alcohol poisoning or gain too much weight.  Since the discovery of all the health benefits of resveratrol many companies have been trying to cash in on this herb by selling a supplement.

The thing to remember is that resveratrol’s benefits have been proven in animals and yeast but not in humans. So it’s true that someone can spend a lot of money on this supplement and not getting benefits.
